Photo reports for an institutional magazine: why loyalty pays off
A local authority that publishes a regular magazine needs a steady flow of credible visuals: daycare centers, senior services, coworking spaces, European projects. Since 2022, BMAX has produced several photo reports for Provence Alpes Agglomeration, featured in its institutional magazine on subjects ranging from early childhood to the silver economy.

What an institutional magazine requires from a photo report
A local authority’s magazine mixes very different topics within a single issue: early childhood, silver economy, economic development, community life. Each report must adapt to its location’s context (a daycare center doesn’t have the same lighting and discretion constraints as a coworking space) while keeping a consistent visual identity across the whole magazine.
For Provence Alpes Agglomeration, this meant several reports across two editions: the Alcotra program and the Pleine Sante project (silver economy) for the winter 2022 edition, then the Malle Moisson daycare center, the Atelier 7.7 show apartment dedicated to innovations for seniors and people with disabilities, and the Diniapolis coworking space for the December 2024 edition.
The value of a recurring collaboration
A local authority that calls on the same photographer from one edition to the next gains visual consistency and efficiency: less time spent explaining context, better familiarity with locations and contacts. According to a Cairn Info survey on local public communication (2024), 68% of local authorities that use an external provider for their printed materials keep the same collaboration going from one edition to the next, mainly for this reason.
This type of assignment also shows the range of subjects an institutional report can cover: a single provider able to photograph a daycare center, a show apartment for seniors and a coworking space within the same month brings real flexibility to the local authority employing them.
Timing, cost, coverage area: your questions
How many reports should be planned per magazine edition?
It depends on how many topics need covering: from one to several short reports per edition, each scheduled around the magazine’s production deadline.
Does BMAX work with local authorities other than Provence Alpes Agglomeration?
Yes, BMAX supports several local authorities and territorial development associations across the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region and Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur.
Can the photos taken be used outside the magazine?
Yes, the same visuals are usually also used on the local authority’s social media and website, which improves the report’s overall cost efficiency.
